Sydney Dec 2025 (17th – 27th Nov)

Day 1 – 17th Dec Wednesday
We touched down at around 8pm on Scoot- flight TR12 and I was really happy to be back in Sydney, When we landed we went through immigration and got an Aussie chop stamped on our passports yay. Then we headed to AVIS because daddy rented a car from them. The previous times, Avis always upgraded the car for us since daddy was a President Club member and he usually books the cheapest car lololol, but this time he got what he really booked for haha (well 3 levels upgrade got us a small SUV). He thought the car was really small but Mummy, Didi and I thought it looked okay. I honestly think the car was really pretty cos it was silver and the headrest had holes like a donut so since I had the passenger seat on the right I could stick my hand through the headrest to annoy the driver. hohoho merry early christmas!

SYD airport pix.

Lucky driver. I was so hungry because I didn’t eat much on the plane, just 3 really big lotus biscoff biscuits yay! We went to a McDonalds drivethru at Five Dock along Parramatta Road on the way to Burwood, then thought that we should eat in cos the maccas was really empty except for a group of young aussie teens laughing and laughing and laughing. We ordered an AUD40 family bundle because we have to spend wisely!! be a true Singaporean (ave. $16 for an individual meal – which is kinda pricey for Mcdonalds, probably cos of inflation) the preset option is 4 big macs, with 4 medium fries and 4 cokes(!). And thank goodness we realised we could change the options, because it was alr so late at night so if i chose to be a bigback and force myself to eat a gigantic beef burger with more than one patty, there’s gonna be obesity. Imagine all those millions of calories oh no i don’t want that. So yay i got myself the frank’s red hot Mccrispy burger, medium french fries and a medium hot chocolate to match with didi because I love matching (nah it’s to prevent him from getting fomo, I’m such a great sister, pat pat). Daddy, Mummy, Didi did get quarter pounders though, which is basically a big mac for people that don’t wanna be bigbacks and eat big macs. When i tasted the fries, it was a life changing moment, and I was glad that now I know why the Mcdonalds are so gigantic with big big kitchens, it’s not cos the workers are fat, it’s so they can fit extra salt because i think the aussie Mcdonalds workers love salt, that they just shower the fries in salt. after the first fry, I had to bounce the fries against the sides of the fries box to shake off the salt. The Mcdonalds hot chocolate was actually really great, not too milky. Definitely must have the next time I get maccas. After our very very late dinner, we drove to gong gong popo’s house in Burwood, Carilla street where we would be staying like our trip last year in 2024, that means more time together yippee! I reached my crying quota really quickly because well I am a very emotional person and I cry easily and also I love gong gong popo so much, they’re really sweet.

Day 2 – 18th Dec Thursday
Stayed in Burwood. Westfield Burwood – Coles, Woolies, Target, Kmart.
Dinner at Wang BBQ North Ryde.

Day 3 – 19th Dec Friday
Daddy went to office today so it was just us.
Evening we went to Rhodes Shopping Centre and checked out the outside of our apartment.
Dinner with Aunty Luan, Uncle Wayne and their family.

Day 4 – 20th Dec Saturday
Sydney Fish Market!
Lucky parking at York Street next to Westfield Sydney.
Supposedly World’s Largest Lego store in the world (everyone seems to be pitting against each other; wasn’t the largest at Leicester Square London – everyone claims to be the largest!)?

Walked to Haymarket.
Packed dinner from Chin Chin’s.

Day 5 – 21st Dec Sunday
Church at Eastwood Cornerstone.
Macquarie Centre – bought some Christmas pressies at BigW.

Dinner?

Day 6 – 22nd Dec Monday
Blue Mountain trip. Scenic World.

Map – 3 rides, Cableway, Skyway and Railway (legit the world’s steepest railway).

Checked into 3 Sister’s Motel!

Explored Woolies/Big-W and Target Express, dinner at RSL and sunset at Cahills Lookout!

Day 7 – 23rd Dec Tuesday
We’re leaving blue mountains!!! We eat breakfast and get ready before hopping in the car. We had a wonderful trip there, and we took many nice pictures while driving down. It was so high up, and we could feel the pressure building up in our ears!

Featherdale?

We stopped for lunch at DFO Homebush. First time trying “Oporto’s”, a fast food joint found all over Australia!!! It was quite boring as there were no fun shops like Hobbyco or EB Games. It was then when I suggested we go for Minigolf! We decided to go to City Gordon Minigolf, which was by the roadside (Holey Moley at Strathfield where we were at last year had unfortunately shuttered!). We had loads of fun, Jie Jie even did a hole in 1!!! But she almost overtook me (−_−;) In the end, I still won overall, getting the lowest score!!! Haha!!!

Before heading back we split up – Daddy and Jie Jie went to Coles to buy drinks/desert, while Mummy and I went to pack some Chinese takeway from one of the Chinese Restaurants at Burwood.

We had Adeline jiejie and her fiance come over for dinner that night. I think we had too much food on the table!

Day 8 – 24th Dec Wednesday
We woke up early to go to Uncle Darryl’s house, and he was an old primary school friend of Daddy’s. We had an Ang Mo breakfast of posciotto, biscuit sticks, ham, Camembert cheese, and yummy Schweppes. ( ̄▽ ̄)We played Ticket to ride Japan, which was a normal Ticket to Ride but with the Shinkansen bullet trains (like the one we took from Tokyo to Yokohama!). I lost boo boo hoo so sad (._.)
Anyway, we heard that Daddy and Uncle Darryl used to play real life street fighters after school!!! They would go to Uncle Darryl’s house and fight wow now we know what daddy used to do in his childhood haha. ╮( ̄▽ ̄””)╭ Then we went back to Burwood to rest for a short while before going to Parramatta Leagues Club for a nice free dinner with Uncle Liong Yu and Aunty Swee Lan. We had lobsters but I wasn’t so interested in that and I preferred the tofu. After 2 hours of the adults chittering chattering away, Jie Jie and I were very bored so we 2 started misbehaving haha and we messed up the carpeted floor real bad.

Jie Jie and me:
(=´∀`)人(´∀`=)
VS
Adults:
(−_−#) Σ(・□・;)

We heard a male waiter walk past and peep from the corner of his eye, before saying “糟糕”in Chinese which means oh no or crap. Well, I guess we were helping him indirectly as we kept him busy u know? ¯(ツ)/¯

Day 9 – 25th Dec Thursday
We went back to Eastwood Cornerstone Church for Christmas morning service – I swapped gifts on Pokemon Go with my childhood doc Dr Sidney.

For lunch we went back to Burwood and walked to Burwood Emerald Plaza for Yum Cha. The dim sum was meh.

For dinner we had family dinner with Aunty Joy and Pete.

Day 10 – 26th Dec Friday
Stayed in Burwood, Daddy had breakkie with friend and Mummy and Daddy picked up last minute shopping from Westfield Burwood.
AMEX lounge at Kingsford Smith Airport.

Bali, Indonesia (Jun 2025) – Round #3!

JJ in DPS 2nd – 6th June 2025

Took the 2nd flight into Bali – SQ936 which departed SIN on time at 8.20 arriving DPS shortly before noon (SQ934 departs at 6.25am which we reckon was way too early!) since Didi only got back from NCC camp the night before only at 6pm!.

Airport transport was seamless thanks to Pelago arrangement (with 10% discount) just the day before, at $8 I don’t know if you can find a better deal than that. Pak Dewi was early and had a sign with daddy’s name. Though disembarkation was pretty quick we got held up a bit at customs post baggage collection. There was a new system which required registration of each pax on an e-form which got a little cranky, consequently we were held up for some 10-15min before we finally got it sorted! Ride was smooth at that time of the day, got into Nusa Dua precinct slightly past noon.

Welcoming sight of the familiar Hilton Nusa Dua, Bali.

There were actually no other guests waiting for checkin (lobby actually looked fairly quiet) and we were checked in by Ibu Pande. She was super nice, welcoming us back to Bali Hilton and organised some welcome amenities (even a family picture which she said was for the staff to recognize ‘Repeater Guests’ / Returnees) and an upgrade to the 1 bedroom Cliff tower Executive Suite (which we checked into midway thru the trip). Being the usual lowest-available-category people, we gladly welcomed the Cliff Tower Executive Ocean View corner room for the first 2 nights and subsequently the Suite on the final 2 nights.

The gang munching away on OCK (not sponsored!) which waiting for Daddy to check us in.

1 Bedroom Cliff suite:

Right after check-in we went to roam the sprawling yet familiar grounds, noticing some recent upgrades, for example the temporarily relocated Nusa Dua Executive Lounge, house in the makeshift Zone 3 of Grain Restaurant while the old lounge undergoes a well needed renovation and capacity expansion (the original lounge when first taken over from Nikko of course was located at now-newly rebranded Elara lounge with private cabanas for private and intimate dining experience adjacent to it’s own pool which used to be a private pool for lounge guests). This meant that the Lounge is open only from 12pm since its used for breakfast to extend capacity for Grain and converted back to the lounge past noon daily. With Pak Bagus from the Executive Lounge who remember the Lee gang from previous year!

The other thing we eagle-eyed kids quickly noticed was the new Game Cave next to Paon restaurant which now manages the pool and billiard tables (gone are the days cues and balls placed 24/7 free for all to use, so-we-were-told due to chronic cases of loss balls and damaged equipment you’ll now need to get the white ball and cues from the cave which operates from 9am to 6pm. In addition, it’s equipped with 2 virtual bowling lanes, couple of arcade style (Street fighter!) games and 2 PS consoles (v2 and v4, the former was rather laggy when we binge played Stumble Guys and Astrobot online).

We also had lots of fun on the foosball tables (Didi being the resident champ), with Mummy being the original expert on pool, but of course. Dig the moves.

We were so tired we just stayed in to an early McDonald’s lunch/dinner we grabbed in since we’re had already booked our seats at the outdoor movie night by the beach. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles go ‘Cowabunga!’ They allocated us really great ‘seats’ – we had some popcorn and finger food for the show.

Day2, we slept in a bit more today and hit breakkie at 930am. Rather rushed as breakfast ended at 1030pm and so it was very full when we arrived! We had a nice quiet table at the rear.

After that was back to the cave! Daddy wanted to make sure we had tennis practice so we went to checkout the tennis courts, whereupon he booked tennis with a coach from 1pm to 2pm. We fed the fishes from bread from brekkie on route to the courts, very well maintained through the years, 3 beautifully sheltered hard courts.

Didi of course was at the cave the whole time!

At 5pm we hit the lounge with evening drinks and canapés. Remember the ‘best part of Bali’ from 2018? Yes the ‘blue drinks’!

Went to the beach thereafter. Caught 5 crabs (which we released on Wednesday morning. Don’t worry no crabs were harmed in the process!).

Wednesday morning we decided to head out early for breakkie as Mummy and Daddy had gotten up early for sunrise at 6.20am. Jiejie despite being the one who woke them up, went back to bed and didn’t  get out of bed will way past sunrise! Daddy and Mummy headed up the observatory (rooftop of the tower cliff which would be something like 20th storey) and took some nice shots and the vids. So good they wanted to ‘share’ that experience with us the next morning! Seems the same family of monkeys were already up and about! See them racing down the cliff!

Tennis again?

What better way to cool down after tennis than to spend time at the beach and pool. Looks like Daddy enjoyed the pool slide more than us!

We had a Brazilian style barbecue dinner at Grain, there was so much food!

Thurs we had early breakkie thereafter caught the Bali Collection shuttle to (but of course!) Bali Collection! Again, feeding the fishes by the lobby.

And interestingly we found there were some who were on the way there only to catch the 11am free shuttle from BC to Kuta (#travelhack)!

BC looked the same apart from having much less visitors, maybe also it’s was early in the morning, but we found the spot where they used to have a wooden swing, now upgraded with unicorn swings! Whee!

Again little kid Daddy wanted to join us but as soon as he hopped on, it creaked so much we had him dismount immediately!

Spent sometime just buying some nicely discounted shoes and took a taxi back to the hotel straight after.

Guess where next? Game cave for sure and more pool!

By 3pm we got back to the room and changed into our pool wear (yes pool, the one with water now) and headed to the beach. Daddy, Didi and I had a swim in the ocean. It was fun jumping in sync against the huge waves!).

Went back then to the pool slide (Daddy lost his goggles the day before and couldn’t find it despite checkin with the lifeguards who were nice to lend him a spare; which he also lost when it got sucked between the drain covers into the drain. Tsk Tsk Tsk!). We did have a nice game of pool water polo + basketball with a makeshift goal post using a repurchased giant pool float. The boys won 10-4 and Daddy gave us a little scare when he had a sudden muscle cramp in his left leg.

Went to the lounge for free dinner (fried chicken day, after chicken bakso the day before!) and thereafter to beachside resto Breeze for finger food and drinks while feeding Bobby. Yes Bobby our 4-legged friend who wanted to follow Daddy back…

Friday morning.

We get up early and head for an early breakfast. Kids hit the game cave 1 final time (Didi beat daddy at a game of pool) and Jiejie busied herself (Unlikely Story) at Stumble Guys.

Got to the airport at 11am for our 1pm flight home. There was already a long queue formed at the checkin counters ahead of what would appear to be a super full flight. Nonetheless cleared customs and immi checks much quicker this time, with just about 30min to grab a quick bite and drink at the lounge. Previously Plaza Premium Lounge is now converted to Tujuwan Lounge for SQ pax while the Cascadia Lounge remain adjacent to that. We skip Tujuwan (very quiet but with surprisingly much fewer food option (apart from noodle bar) and ate (yes again!) at Cascadia which although much older looking (and warm) had a better spread of food and deserts! Anyway Daddy guested Mummy and Jiejie in there while while Daddy and Didi were as Cascadia until the girls came over to join us.

Shortly thereafter we got to our departure gate I4 where we were met with no 1 but 2 SQ planes! Full flight but again Daddy got an empty seat next to him!

Hong Kong (29th Jan – 2nd Feb 2025)

29th Jan – 2nd Feb 2025

SQ874 was scheduled to depart 725am so we had an awfully early start to the day.

Hello SQ874.

Reading on the plane? Good job, though that can only last so long… wait what was that, some J class fruits?

Arrived in to some really great weather, with some sunshine to boot and a nice cool breeze. Would have been about 20degC we reckon. We had someone from Conrad HK meet us at the airport.

Got to Admiralty in under 30min – traffic was really smooth on the 1st day of Chinese New Year.

There was a queue at the check-in and took a while, but we didn’t bother as the rest of the gang took time to explore the expansive lobby. At the end both got upgraded, the Diamond Grandpa to a Mountain/Peak View Suite while the lowly Gold Daddy to an Executive Deluxe Double (also on the same mountain view orientation, we would understand later the hotel was operating at super full occupancy and many had prebooked harbour view rooms for the CNY fireworks display).

No complaints as it was only 1-ish and we got our rooms without any hassle, thanks to the gracious early check-in accorded.

Hello Mr Conrad HKG bear, and his sibling who looks like a monkey donning the water-polo-like cap, and their distant relative Mr Rubber Ducky.

Amazing view of the Peak from 6013

Interestingly while both rooms had identical-looking bathroom, only the suite featured the Conrad Duck in the tub and what we reckon was a canister of bath salt. #spotthedifference in the bathroom!

We check out the Executive Lounge on the 59th Floor. Our room was on the top-most level, 61st and YYMMGG were on the 60th. Interestingly, the Executive Lounge though located on the 59th is connected to the 60th floor via a spiral staircase. So I reckon if you intend to use the lounge a fair bit, it would be much more convenient being on the 60th or 59th, trade-off being the 59th would obviously have a lot more footfall with folks going in/out vs. the privacy of being 1 level above, though connected conveniently via the spiral stairs.

Having awoken super early in the morning (or barely slept a couple of hours), everyone hunkered down for a little snooze time. The nap did us good and soon we were ready to explore the sights and sounds of HK in CNY. Conrad is located very conveniently adjacent to Pacific Place strategically poised with Admiralty MTR underground (flanked by Shangri-la and JW Marriott), there are a few ways to get to the station and while we initially took a left at L2 Conrad linkway to Pacific Place (no lift access), we settled subsequently with the right turn – connected fully via mall directly to the underground.

Human traffic was at its peak at Tsim Sha Tsui, we were literally stuck at the station at a human gridlock and could not get out. Seems roads were closed for the CNY street parade festivities.

We decided to backtrack to Pacific Place to grab dinner from there instead and settled for a finger-lickin’ good ol’ KFC chicken party in the room!

Day 2 – Tsim Sha Tsui, Star Ferry and CNY Fireworks

Got up to an early breakfast. We were shocked that breakkie was at the Grand Ballroom! So many people! We found out later this arrangement was to accommodate the influx of guests at the hotel during this super peak season. We would later have breakfast at the (way cosier!) Garden Cafe at opposite ends of the same floor.

After a hearty meal, we went back to Tsim Sha Tsui and walked south towards the Star Ferry Pier. We found Pop Mart store along the way at K11 mall! Yeh Yeh’s old office used to be round the corner.

Walked further south past Nathan Road and Kowloon Hotel to Harbour City. We get to Star Ferry and it was a mad house (Read: MADHOUSE!). Yes, so many people, folks didn’t even know which queue they were in, headed for Central or Wan Chai! Yes, that crazy! After initial skepticism and the girls wanting to back out, we pushed through the sea of human traffic. At one point the staff were seen shouting at rowdy queue cutting schlaps. So much drama. At the end he open the gates to let us through, and when we said we hadn’t paid, he just retorted in Cantonese go, Just Go!!! (by the way, you could either pay with the Octopus Card, or Amex which had a promo for HKD$1 Star Ferry rides when paying with an eligible Amex card via contactless or digital wallet payments – that which we did not have to do on the way up!) – we did use the Octopus Cards for our trip back from Central to the TST (Kowloon side).

We arrived at the Central side and rejoin the queue immediately to head back to TST. This time though less crowded, yet we still got separated. Check out the human divide (YYMM, Daddy and Mummy on one side and Gugu, JieJie and I stuck behind!). Dig the McDonald’s star ferry! Hong Kong-ers love their McDonald’s so we would see!

Got back land side and went to have a quick but late lunch at Cafe de Coral. What was evident was that there were multitudes of people everywhere we went! Even waiting for lunch (and an available table huge enough for 7!) took almost a full hour at what was to have been at a QSR (Quick Service Restaurant)!

By the time we were done, we walked back to Tsim Sha Tsui East Station and found it was closed by the Police due to crowd control with already massive crowds swelling yet, and staking out camp of best vantage points ahead of the evening bay fireworks; so we walked back north to the next station (Tsim Sha Tsui). And yes we walked past the same underpass from YMCA to the TST MTR where we saw the Horseman busker in our first HK trip back in 2018!

That night we went back to the hotel to watch the CNY Fireworks display at the bay. The Executive Lounge had extended the invites to view the amazing pyrotechnics display from the Conrad Hong Kong’s Presidential Suite (Room 6116). And yes, there was already a short queue formed outside by the time we arrived, ahead of doors opening at 8pm.

A total of 23,888 firing shells discharged from three barges in an approximately 23-minute extravaganza. This year’s fireworks display, in celebration of the Year of the Snake, was divided into nine scenes with various highlights and characteristics.

And because the usual Executive Lounge was blocked out for a private event, the they opened up Nicholini’s adjacent to Pacific Bar as a popup/substitute drinks and dining experience.

Day3 – Disneyland

Good Morning HK! We’re headed back to HK Disneyland after our 1st trip there in 2018!

Had an early brekkie with YYMMGG. Took train from Admiralty to Hong Kong Station and the train to Sunny Bay where we changed trains to the Disney line.

And yes we all love our fastfood, but it would be hard to rival Hong Kong’s passion for McDonalds with yet another huge activation (after the Mc’D Star Ferry we saw yesterday!). And look, is that Hamburglar we see? So that’s where he’s been staking out all this time!

Arrived in good time after jumping on the Disney Line from Sunny Bay MTR (Daddy says he didnt actually register the tickets having bought them couple days prior from SQ’s Pelago site with predetermined dates, though he should have).

Good thing no issues getting in and we were soon let in after a short bag check.

Went to Jungle River cruise which was a short 15min queue, thereafter Daddy, Didi and I went on the Oaken’s Sleigh ride. The roller coaster was pretty meh, but alas, we were more amused (or bemused!) by Mummy who was scared (of what?) the Red Indian blowpipe, or elephant spouting water, or was it the little volcanic eruption? Hehehe…

Took some pix around the very picturesque Arendelle pier. My friends thought the pic was a fake (AI generated graphic! What?). Ya right.

The queue at Frozen Ever After was building up so we jumped at the opportunity for the Premier access (aka FastPass).

Toy Story Land was next, Mummy’s turn to take us on the next ride, Slinky Dog while our old man sat out at the plains. We decided to stop for lunch at Tomorrowland not so much because we were hungry, rather more to rest our weary legs, thereafter used the 1st of 3 Premier Access combo passes, first to Antman which was basically just a shooting game, nothing scary.

So we got Mummy to join us for the next round. Ended the last ride with Its a Small World (yikes we can still hear the tunes ring in our heads!), by which time it was time for Mickey and Friends CNY processional along main street.

Once the floats cleared we made a dash for the shops to grab some stuff (checkout Jiejie’s Fox Linabelle?).

And so we wrapped up our day at Disney and left the park round about 7.30pm as we did not want to wait for the fireworks. The boys wanted to take the Disney train round the park but unfortunately the last one rolled out the station at 6pm. Oh well!

And so we jumped back onto the MTR and headed to Mongkok to visit the night markets. We got back to the hotel having hit > 16,000 steps! Whoa!

Day 4 – Ding Ding, Mongkok

Had an early brekkie today, given the crowd was no longer as busy as the past days, breakfast was served at Garden Cafe.

After an unrushed meal, we took a walk around the hotel towards the heated outdoor pool and checked-out the gym.

Took Ding Ding to Causeway Bay to walk around, post which the MTR back to Mongkok. What’s a visit to HK without Dim sum? Went to London Restaurant along Nathan road, it was a crazy experience having arrived late to many food already being sold out. It was a mad rush to snap up whatever food was left available!

At the London Restaurant in Hong Kong! How odd, though yes it did feel a little like either Gold Mine or Four Seasons Bayswater though much larger vs. the cramp, constricted restaurants in London!

Walked around a bit more around Argylle Centre and back the the MTR from Mongkok back to Admiralty. Rested a while at lounge on the 59th, the lift situation was visibly not as busy as past few days (perhaps some guests were already leaving).

Day 5 – Back to SG

Woke up mighty early as we were leaving the hotel at 6am. Got into airport early and hit the lounge.

Pic of us at the Silverkris Lounge HK – us kids guested in by Grandpa and Daddy.

Catchin’ SQ899 back to SG!

YYMMGG and Mummy were seated in front while Daddy mumbled and grumbled about having to babysit us at the back.

For the record, we were really good kids and behaved really well – stuck to our devices the whole duration (oh wait, where’s MahMah?!)…

In all, apart from all the wait – waiting for the lifts (yes Conrad has 6 service lifts for pax, but 3 were down, and given the hotel was at max occupancy across CNY), we waited on average 10minutes each trip, waiting for tables, waiting for rides – it was definitely a short but solid trip and more importantly time well spent together!

That said, it was all good in the end. Happy CNY 2025 all!

p.s. Pic taken at our Reunion dinner the night before at where else but Daddy’s favourite spot. They even have our birthday celebration pictures/vids on their FB account! Then again, where else do you know each and every one of their staff by name, and them preparing a whole 1kg cake to celebrate your birthdays each year and every year? And oh, please pardon the red can 🙂

St. Regis Singapore [Reprise!] (Dec 2024)

We revisit St. Regis Singapore on 22nd Dec 2024

Welcomed by familiar surroundings dabbed with Christmas decor.

Super quiet – looked like super low occupancy period with local folks still travelling, and not many foreign visitors at this time!

We take a similar photo as our last visit.

Snagged the same Lady Astor Double room (911) after having stayed at 811 last year (exactly same configuration/facing).

Welcome amenities.

Butler sent some welcome drinks (coffee/tea and iced lemon tea), and a personalized note for Daddy who’s a real sucker for our notes 🙂

We check out the pool (Daddy says its unfortunate we again did not get to swim!), we head to the
(again very quiet gym) after dinner (to check out weight and BMI!) and Didi here soaking in the tub!

Classic JTwin pose the next morning!

Brekkie at BLS!

London Dec 2024 (7th – 18th Dec)

#The Twins go to London!

The Twins hit London!

At Changi Singapore to catch SQ308 from SIN – LHR, at almost 14hours this would be our longest flight thus far! We were originally planning to be back by the 18th Dec 2024 which was when Secondary School Postings for 2025 would be announced, but had we known we didnt have to ballot to our dream schools we would have either gone later, and/or extended our trip!

Arrived in late afternoon to some really turbulent weather into Heathrow – the last 15mins or so before touchdown was particularly rocky, some of the pax were visibly shaken and heard coughing violently – likely sick from the bumpy ride (we know jolly well how that felt like!). For now everyone was glad to have arrived after the long flight. Cleared relatively quickly thanks to the fast clearance for *G in Heathrow.

Weather was wet and cold, London was facing some really strong gale winds that day (we later heard about the culprit Storm Darragh that hit, causing widespread disruption to flights and ferry services).

We were literally blown away on arrival, due to the gale force winds, thankfully we got to our apartment in one piece! This would have been our first holiday in a rental apartment which we found available through the almost 2 weeks of our time in a nicely tucked away corner in South-East London.

Compton House.

We were so tired arriving in (traffic in London is horrendous!) to the apartment after almost an hour and a half from LHR. Alas, a nice respite and a home away from home.

Hit the sack early to recover – weather still looking wet and dreary the next morning (Sunday), so typical of London; but we didn’t allow that to dampen nor thwart our plans! We take it easy and hang out at M&S, Tesco Express (and Extra!) along with Sainsbury to get acquainted with the surroundings, and setup the Christmas tree! Oh we did also binge watch “Is it Cake?” and got acquainted with the “Paddington” series on Netflix!

On Monday we made our way to Green Park tube station via Bond Street en route to Buckingham Palace to catch the changing of guards (happens only 11am Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays – a ceremony marking the official handover of duties from one group of soldiers to another). It seems there are different guards/uniforms for summer/winter months (along with different music accompaniment. Check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King%27s_Guard) so that day we were able to catch the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (complete with their Household Cavalry brass band in tow).

Fun fact – Daddy says when the flag is up, the King is in! 🙂

Pro-tip, go in at least 45mins before and stakeout the ‘roundabout’/circular landing (Queen Victoria Memorial Monunent) for best vantage views if you’re at Buckingham Palace. Note also there are changing of guards at St. James Palace. Once that was all done, we walked around St. James Park (saw many friendly squirrels who seems ‘accustomed’ to visitors trying to feed/pat them!), and covered a far bit of the gardens while making our way to Westminster Abbey, past Big Ben, north along Parliament Street to see 10 Downing Street, Household Cavalry Museum (Royal Horse Guards) ending at Trafalgar Square (Charing Cross station).

We spotted a super cute Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea Bus Tour on the way!

We finished up the day completing upwards of 10,000 steps (follow our trail below)!

Finishing up at Trafalgar Square and Charing Cross Station…

Tuesday

Next day, onto Oxford Circus – saw @HarmonieLondon outside John Lewis Oxford Street.

Headed to Covent Garden Apple Market and Christmas Markets.

Enjoyed some entertainment from some good ‘ol street buskers – fire/torch jugglers, some half-naked men juggling knives while balancing on a ladder, street soccer performer, and many aspiring singers!

Oh yes, we also bumped into the Grinch in the subway on the way back (reminiscent of The Horseman Pianist we chanced upon in the subway/MTR in Hong Kong)!

Wednesday

What a hearty brekkie whipped up by the J-crew! Our very own (Hilton-worthy) hot breakfast.

British Heritage Museum / Natural History Museum featuring a cool earthquake simulator / room with a mockup of a Kobe supermarket amidst the 1995 Kobe earthquake. Checkout the vid below.

Hintze Hall at the British Natural History Museum.

Famous British Fish and Chips – The Fish Plaice (also found on the London Guide Daddy made us read up on prior to the trip).

We tried the Cod and Haddock fish, but truth be told, the Halibut @ Small Fish & Big Fish in Singapore is so much better (below 1 week after getting home)!

Thursday

British Museum (skeletons of dino).

Bayswater Duck – the famed Four Seasons and Gold Mine. We settled for Gold Mine this time as YYMM were there just May this year and had some great reviews on the duck.

After a very late lunch, we head to Harrod’s at Knightsbridge.

Friday

Next day, we head out on our own to Tottenham Court Road, we check out London’s West End Tickets – sprawled around Leicester Square (TodayTix, Leicester Square Half Price Box Office, but eventually settle for Mrs Doubtfire for Sunday’s matinee via TKTS. Never buy full-fee musical tix in London!

Walked around the Leicester Square Christmas Markets, checked out the really huge Lego Store on Leicester (we made our very own personalized miniature Lego figurines) and visited the ‘world’s largest’ M&Ms store (have you ever seen another M&M store this huge)? Dig the M&M’s on steroids!

Around the corner to the world’s largest M&Ms store @ Leicester Square, spanning 35,000 square feet across four floors.

Lego store at Leicester Square!

Personalizing our own Lego Figurines…

Strolled around Chinatown.

Rode the tube to Paddington Station.

On the platform where the bear donning a red hat and blue coat first arrived, fresh off the boat (or train) from Peru!

Saturday

Next day had some really glorious weather. Went back with YYMMGG to (guess where?!) Tottenham Court again, Chinatown, Leicester Square Christmas Markets and had more Chinese food in Chinatown! Walking around we couldn’t help notice there was a lot of horse poop along the streets. Looked like the police horse had a bad case of diarrhoea from last night’s dinner! yikes!

Four Seasons Chinatown, 12 Gerrard Street Chinatown London

Sunday

Sunday, we take it easy and head to Spitalfields Markets (via Liverpool Street Station). Note – pronounced “Spiitafields, not Spite-a-fields!”.

Rushed back to Tottenham Court Rood and made a dash to Shaftesbury Theatre for Mrs. Doubtfire. We had underestimated the time to get to the theatre from Spitalfields (having had lunch at the markets and finding our way back to Liverpool St. Station via a different route!), consequently super worried about missing, or being locked out (if late) for our 3.30pm matinee! Thank God we literally made it in the nick of time – our guide who got us to the right exits and straight on to Shaftesbury!

We finish up the day playing Monopoly with Daddy.

“Who comes to London having not played the original Monopoly”?

And so we get acquainted with Liverpool St. Station, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Street (Marylebone Station!) and the infamous Parklane and Mayfair both of which were mine before Daddy and Didi landed on got bankrupt!!!

Monday

Sky Garden observatory at the 43rd floor of the Fenchurch building (aka the Walkie-Talkie), a 10min walk from Liverpool St. Station.

Dazzling views across London far as the eye could see (pictured below the HMS Belfast with The Shard in the foreground).

Walk along London Bridge (humming a familiar tune?) towards Burrough Markets. We even saw a stall selling Singapore Laksa!

Bade farewell to YYMMGG, continued on our own… back to our fav spot Tottenham Court via Piccadilly Circus, walked to Leicester Square and back, checked out some shops – Foyles Bookstore, Flying Tiger (which we saw in Amsterdam last year!) and more street performers!

…had Five Guys for dinner (Mummy had her fav. Pret A Manger)…

by the way did you know Five Guys has the best chips (or “fries”, depending on where you’re from)? Apparently cooked in peanut oil (sorry all you peanut intolerant peeps), and… they even have crates loads of ground nuts free for all – with a note however that says only for consumption within Five Guys restaurants only (yeah right!)…

Lola’s 🙂

The next day was time to head home… it was a morning flight and because it took >1 hour to Heathrow we had to leave by 5am. At LHR it was pretty long walk from the main terminal (A gate to B38-B44). Take note the (newly renovated) SilverKris Lounge is closer to the B gate area and will take a good 15 mins walk at least from the main area!

Getting settled into SQ 305 for our flight back to SG.

Gotta love the Christmas deco/holly decked out across the plane during Christmas time!

For now, we’re super glad to be home, thanks for joining us on this journey and Merry Christmas everyone from the Christmas Carnival @ Leicester Square!

Sydney Nov 2024 (15th – 19th Nov)

#The Twins are back in Sydney!

Last day of school on 14th Nov 2024 where we head back for the penultimate time (prize-giving day, in anticipation to the final day on 20th Nov which would be release of the dreaded PSLE results! Yikes!)

With only 5 days to juggle with Daddy had planned for us to Scoot to Sydney to visit (after living in SYD for 2 years, we have actually not had the opportunity to go back until now) – so this would be our 1st trip back in 10 years! Whoa!

Believe it or not we’d actually not packed until getting home on Thursday afternoon, frantically chucking all our barang-barang into the suitcase (we only bought 1 check-in bag allowance of 20KG and managed to snag additional 5KG free) so that wasn’t very much after half of it was filled with stuff/gifts for friends.

Diggin’ the Hello Kitty 2024 Golden Jubilee Fest at Changi!

Our flight was TR2 scheduled for departure at 230am which unfortunately got delayed by an hour plus; it wasn’t until almost 4 in the morning that we had wheels up. We tried to get some shut eye given there was no IFE. We did prebook 2 meals (Nasi Lemak and Ginger Chicken with Rice) to share amongst the four of us but unfortunately we were already stuffed (after visiting the Plaza Premium Lounge at T1 – using Daddy and Mummy’s Priority Pass/Dragon Pass respectively), plus we were just too dead tired. The food didn’t look so good either, so we just took the drinks and candy through the flight to keep us perked! And by the way Daddy was a little unwell in the tummy the whole trip…

Despite the announcement over PA reminding pax to take note of boarding their respective boarding sequence, overall it was a hugely messy exercise with priority-boarding free for all – almost like a frag-fest rampage! So much for priority boarding (more like hoarding!)!

Still awake and wide-eyed!

Kind-deed Mummy decided to bless an uncle seated in front of him with one of the meals we didn’t eat. We also gave away another meal. And no, for avoidance of doubt it wasn’t to Doc Brown lurking at the back!

No drama getting into Kingsford Smith Airport Sydney (FYI did you know there are still curfews enforced in some AU airport, with no flights allowed to arrive/leave AU between 11pm-6am). Thankfully for the free forward seats we were allocated we were able to get to the immigration counters fairly quickly and ahead of the rest (on the flights, and other flights). Can you imagine with flight-bunching, many other airlines arrive around the same time! We even requested to have our passports stamped with the Aussie arrival chop – not so easy these days with electronic clearance rolled out to most airports! There was also quite a wait for the bags at the carousel but we made up for good time after being waved through without any bag checks (oh we did miss seeing the cutesy beagles sniff our bags as we saw in Perth last trip!). Collected our car from Avis where daddy got a free upgrade to a swanky BMW X3 despite having booked the smallest category Suzuki swift given his Avis President membership (thank you #Amex), which was  apparently the same car he got when he was there few months back in July!

Nice weather when we arrived. It was about a 45 min drive to Burwood, where we pretty much stayed at. Headed straight for Westfield and strolled K-Mart and Target before heading to Strathfield for Korean dinner with Gong Gong and Popo.

Day#1 – Koala Park Sanctuary – West Pennant Hills

Surprisingly the highlight wasn’t so much the Koala viewing and Kangaroo feeding, but our Cockatoo friend (checkout his funny antics!). He must have been craving much needed attention that he was trying to follow us when we were about to leave! He was always following us around and saying “Hello!”

#Throwback to 10years back at Featherdale Wildlife Park Sydney – easily an hour North-West from Burwood which we didnt have time to do this trip, hence the closer option of Koala Park at Pennant Hills (30mins away) where we still get to see Koalas and Kangaroo. Lookit those cutie pies, both with headgear and without!

Lunch at Pyrmont Fish Market! Daddy and Mummy’s go-to location for one-stop seafood each time!

Glorious seafood galore!

There was so much food there, and our favourite was the fish and chips!

We also ate takoyaki with bonito flakes. Mmmmmm!

#throwback to Babypower 10years ago at SYD Fish Market, our fav one-stop seafood joint, *munch-munch*…

Sydney Opera House!

In the middle of the road outside Aunty Luan’s house in Killara!

Dinner with Gong Gong Popo and Aunty Luan at Ipoh Hawker (what was previously Sambal). After dinner, while mummy and daddy went to shop at Coles, we baked Black Forest cupcakes with Popo. (Chocolate cupcakes with cherry filling, whipped cream and a cherry on top)🍫🧁🍒

Day#2 – Cornerstone Church Eastwood

Woolies at Marsfield after checking out our old house, look who we spotted!

Lunch at BBQ Wang at North Ryde – we had initially rendezvoused there in hopes to find an old Viet haunt we used to visit for rice paper rolls but found the new Korean joint instead which Daddy and Mummy said served even better food than Korea (yes they were in Seoul again just a week before SYD while we stayed home – thanks Gugu who stayed over with us during that time!). We all agreed that the food was excellent and wanted to go there again on Monday. However, little did we know that they would be closed on Monday. Boo-hoo, another hurrah another day!

BBQ Wang – the Wagyu Specialist!

We went to visit Rhodes Shopping Centre (lookit the playground we used to play at, Gugu says where only us Asian kids were the usual suspects frolicking around past 10 in the night when all other kids were already in bed by that time!) and then our house in SYD. Come to think about it, we really don’t remember anything much about our early life here though the waters seem to be a wee bit familiar now that Daddy mentioned he used to cycle around with us strapped in the back of the trailer!).

We were able to go in a take some photos – thanks to our gracious tenants!

Look at this blast from the past pic!

Peek-a-boo! OMG who are those little kiddos straddled at the back of the baby trailer?

Updated to recent year(s) [May 2019] – almost outgrowing the max weight supportable and working our old man really hard…

We managed to catch a game of mini-golf at Holey-Moley at North Strathfield.

Day#3 – More shopping (I was looking out for squishmallows)

Since it was daddy’s birthday and he was at work, we decided to surprise him by making a chocolate birthday cake with “magic” candles— they wouldn’t go out no matter how many times Daddy HUFFED and PUFFED. In the end, we had to use a wet towel to douse the flames.🔥

Day#4 – finally time for us to head back to take our results!

Saying goodbye to GongGong and Popo is never easy!

Again another delay wherein we arrived back at 4am (originally scheduled for 3am!) after almost another hour’s delay (seems to be a trend here on TR flights hmmm….).

We head back in for some shuteye and then it was back to school (again!) for the final time to collect our results!

OMG so amazing Praise the Lord!

Both didi and I achieved AL4 and Distinctions on Higher Chinese which means we will be headed to our dream schools!

YAY! AWESOME!!! WOOHOOO!!!

SQ PPS Movie Night 2024

So Daddy and Mummy get the yearly invite for a free movie night out courtesy of Singapore Airlines PPS Club, this year for a preview of Red One (having missed previous years’ – in 2023 it was Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on 20th Dec which we missed as we were already on holiday). Jumping at the invite this year, they ditched us at home to binge-play our video games.

The event was again held at Golden Village Vivocity and food was catered for at the annex adjacent to the level 6 box office where apparently private events (birthday parties, corporate events) were usually held.

Daddy snaps up the pix (and food), and while there were heaps of delectable food and sweets, Mummy indulges in some bubbly, but the grownups quip that the satay wasn’t half as good as the on 40,000 feet up in the air. For some reason it just wasn’t the same. There was of course also the signature SQ laksa akin to the ones usually found at Silverkris (SKL) lounges.

There was a card which participants had to keep, to redeem their goodie bag after dinner, en route to the movie hall. Inside were some chips, bottled water and a pair of reusable shopping bags (how very thoughtful and practical indeed!). Before the movie, some SQ and Krishop/Pelago ads were aired adding to the touches which continue to make SQ a ‘Great Way to Fly’.

Overall a very nice touch by Singapore Airlines.

SQ PPS Club Movie Night 2024 – Goodie Bag.

Oh yes, disclaimer, both the red and Polo blue SQ bears are blasts from the past – they didnt come with the goodie bag (though Daddy wished otherwise!).

12th Birthday! (30th June 2024)

#The Twins turn 12!

We head back to the (by now not-so-newly-renovated anymore) Hilton Orchard for Sunday birthday brunch @ Estate (previously Mandarin Orchard which was more confusing since there was the Mandarin Oriental and the other Mandarin Orchard!), previously celebrating Yeh Yeh and Mah Mah’s Wedding Anniversary and Gugu’s Birthday.

Best part of Estate is that we get to do some fun activities (painting on canvas and Didi playing chess with Daddy), while the in-house magician goes around strutting his stuff!

Very nice spot, it didn’t seem like there was anyone else that day so we pretty much had that area all to ourselves…

Oh BTW we also (pre) celebrated with Daddy and Mummy the night before at Asian Market Cafe – checkout the fireworks in the background in celebration of our birthday! (LOL, actually they were the rehearsals ahead of NDP 2024!).

A shortcut to our birthdays…

Oh, yes by the way Daddy always says uncle David is on the Hilton and Estate video!

Check out the vids below courtesy of our famous uncle David…

Hilton Orchard Singapore (Dec 2023)

Arriving home after CDG, YYMMGG check in to the Hilton Orchard to stay over for Christmas.

Yeh Yeh and Daddy checking us in (check-in could have been done at the Exec Lounge for Diamond but with it being on the 6th floor of the Mandarin Wing (a different lift lobby away!) it was quicker to check in at the main lobby. Facade looks familiar with a touch up on the main checkin area which is in the same part where the old Mandarin Orchard lobby used to be.

Our upgraded room @ 3638 at the far end.

We check out the Lounge after checkin. The pre-dinner spread was really good, akin to a full dinner outside!

Heading out with Yeh Yeh and Mah Mah to check out the Christmas lights along Orchard…

Merry Christmas!

Europe Dec 2023 (19th – 29th Dec)

Us kids had been waiting a super long time for this trip, first planned circa July in the year, finally the day arrived (more like night since we took a night flight out to get into Europe in the morning)!

Nice festive decor at Changi!

Soon it was departure time!

SQ324 from SIN to AMS.

Daddy get some serious Priority Passenger Service treatment!

Check out the SQ bears (chef edition, this time round we get both the boy and the girl versions!).

Flight time was 14 hours thereabouts headed from SIN to Amsterdam, but seemed a little shorter (13 hours from Paris back to SIN).
What do we do but the obvious!

Day 2

Hello Schiphol Airport!

Zaanse Schans village with traditional windmills, clog making and cheese making factory.

Clog Making at Volendam!

Madurodam, little miniature village with some rides and Dutch history.
Miffy! Did you know Miffy is Dutch!

Pretty much hang around the Amsterdam main shopping belt around Dam Square.

Eagle-eyed Mummy spots Primark, her fav go-to in Europe! We have dinner near Dam Square after walking past some shops selling magic mushrooms (who thought there would be magic mushrooms outside of Super Mario Land!) and space cakes!

Dam Square, Amsterdam

Manneken Pis (yes like the little boy from Brussels) – voted #1 fries in Holland.

Who needs space cakes and magic mushroom when you have the best fries!

Day 3
We take it easy a little today since everyone was trying to adjust to local time, and after day yesterday!

We headed went back to the Dam Square and have some time shopping for souvenirs, tulips, clogs and the likes. There was the option to visit Anne Frank’s house which we passed on since tickets had to be prebooked ahead (The Diary of Anne Frank, which is apparently the most translated Dutch book in the world!).

Take a canal cruise and get off at Gassan Diamonds to visit the gallery. It was interesting to see intricate canal system and boat houses in Amsterdam.

Day 4
Today, we travel to the busy port town of Rotterdam. We see the De Verwoeste Stad, a sculpture by Ossip Zadkine which commemorates the bombing of Rotterdam during World War II, marvel at the innovative Cube Houses, a unique housing project that survived the war.

Next, visit Markthal Rotterdam, the country’s 1st covered market that features 96 fresh produce stalls and 20 hospitality and retail units on the 2 lowest floors. Designed by Dutch architects, this covered food market is shaped like a giant arch. A staircase in the centre of the market, named the Time Stairs, displays a permanent exhibition about the history of food and artefacts found during the excavation of the site. In the afternoon, we travel to Roermond designer outlet, close to the German border.

We spend a couple of hours there, had lunch and then drive a further 1.5hr to Cologne to see one of the most fascinating old towns in the country. We reach late in the evening and headed straight for dinner at a traditional German bierhaus (Didi says he has space cakes in Amsterdam and now beer in Germany – like Orion beer factory in Okinawa!) thereafter check in to our hotel, the Mercure Koln.

Day 5
The next morning we explore Koln town, mainly around Cologne Cathedral, a gem of Gothic architecture and one of Germany’s most visited landmarks. While Daddy, Mummy, Gugu, Yeh Yeh and Mah Mah (pretty much everyone else had been there in the past) it was the first time they were visiting around Christmas.

There was a Christmas market adjacent to the cathedral, Weihnachtsmarkte Koln, bustling with stalls from souvenirs fashion and food for the last minute Christmas shopper. Daddy says the brats have bratwurst and crap (actually it was creppe!) and choco fondue and some warm ribena milk thingy which is supposedly warm wine which folks sip while strolling around the market (we find out they gave us the zero alcohol version but of course burps!). There was even a some stage performances. Really like pasar malam style…

We turn travel 5 hours south-West towards Reims via the Belgian border. Mummy gives us 30mins game time during this time.

In the evening we went to another bierhaus. Even though Reims is in France it’s proximity to Germany meant we (oops the adults) would likely get some good beer!

Mummy wanted to get escargots but in the end we went with beef stew and more fish and chips, obviously with beer to boot!

Holiday Inn Reims, Germany

After dinner we took a stroll along the French Christmas market at Reims just a stone’s throw away from restaurant and our hotel.

Day 6
We headed out towards Epernay, Champagne region and visited Maison Mercier, one of the largest and longest Champagne houses (since 1858!) in France. We took a tour down into their cellars 30m below ground, and a 30min train ride around the sprawling 18km network of tunnels in the underground labyrinth. Whee!

Mummy bought some bubbly, her happy drink! We find out they are the same family as Dom Perignon, Moet Henessey, Krug having been acquired by LVMH since 1987. At 20 Euros a pop daddy had been mumbling the whole way to the airport we should’ve bought more!

2 hours later we get into Paris city.
We embarked on a city tour and immerse in some of the most iconic sights of this timeless city – Napoleon’s Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees (shop dou nei sei) Boulevard and Eiffel Tower. Thereafter, we check out Fragonard Perfume Museum, one of the largest perfumeries in France, and indeed, it also happens to be an awesome place to purchase exclusive French scents that won’t break the bank. We get the best-selling Etoile (made of Ginger, Bergamot and Apple), Frivole and Diament. FYI #funfact, did you know that perfume came about because one of the French kings, King Louis XIV was so terrified to bathing they he forced court officials to create a new scent every week and said to spray his visitors with perfume upon entering his palace. He was said to have had only 2 baths in his adult life – both occasions recommended by his doctors! OMG… I don’t need to be a doctor to tell you bathing is good for you!

We walked towards the Louvre.

We spend the rest of the day at Galeries LaFayette where mummy gets a new bag as Christmas pressie!

Day 7 Merry Christmas!
We hang out around Paris City on Christmas morning, and take a river cruise along the Seine. There is a point in which we see both the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty! The original apparently since the one in New York was a gift to America.

We go scouting for Chinese food after setting for McDonalds the night before!

Day 8
Next morning we get up early to head to Paris Disneyland. We take the train past Gare du Nord to Marne-la-Vallée-Chessy station about 45 mins away. From there it was a short 2 min stroll to the gates of what was supposedly the happiest place on earth.

We have a super early breakkie but when we were about to leave, we spot Yeh Yeh, Mah Mah and Gugu having breakfast!

We skip the character meets and go straight to the rides. First up was Pirates of the Caribbean boat ride. All aboard! Ahoy mate and who do we see but Captain Jack Sparrows!

We find the Indiana Jones roller coaster ride. Mummy chickens out halfway in the queue and ditches us. We take the first car and daddy’s right behind. At the end of the ride we were blown away. Whoa this was our biggest roller coaster ride thus far!

Dumbo!

It was such a cold day to be out queuing for rides in the open, seems our old man caught a chill. At which point we thought it wouldn’t be worth queuing up anymore for rides so we paid for the Express/Fast Pass for the Buzz Lightyear ride, at 12 euros a pop per pax it seems OK to escape queuing in the cold. Poor Daddy. Slept like a log all day when we got home to nurse the cold.

So tired, and Daddy wanted to take an Uber back to the hotel, but turns out the metro ride took only an hour to get back to our hotel!

Day 9
We head to the airport to catch our flight back from CDG TO SIN…

Merry Christmas 2023 from all of us!
